Periscope in Tampere

As my husband has been to Tampere several times for work, he surprised me with a wonderful dinner with an amazing view.

Grilled Bread with Homemade Whipped Butter with Truffles. how can you go wrong with whipped butter, it is so soft and fatty and just so damn good. and that little extra taste of truffle just made it even more luxurious.

Tom Yum glazed salmon with white radish and apple slaw, lemongrass, mayonnaise and red paksoi. i didn’t get much tom yum flavor so that should have been stronger. but the salmon was cooked to perfection, so soft it melted in your mouth. the slaw added that acidity element and the mayonnaise added that fattiness and richness. a delicious and pretty dish.

Beetroot TARTARE with truffle, parmesan and watercress. super tasty and super fresh, the beets had the right softness with that slight crunch. the truffle flavor wasn’t too strong or overpowering, just enough to add another dimension to the dish.

Coconut caramel glazed tender pork ribs, chili, coriander and toasted sesame seeds. i was surprised at how good this was, the meat was super tender it feel so easily off the bone. the sauce was sweet and sticky, i would have probably chopped up the chilis and put them directly in the sauce to have that spiciness in the sauce. if you didn’t eat the chili then it was not at all spicy just sweet.

Side dishes included salted avocado and tomato, Bone marrow flavoured polenta and New potatoes with dill butter and fresh horseradish. my favorite was the polenta, it was definitely one of the richest polentas i have ever had. I think they also added some basil to it as why could it be green.

Tamarind ice cream, lemongrass caramel, braised pineapple and coconut biscuit. sweet, sour and just plain delicious. i could have had another one of these. it has the right balance of sweet and sour and different textures. the tamarind ice cream although sour was so good.

Tangerine sorbet, passion fruit mousse, mango granite, rose meringue and kaffir lime juice. i am always skeptical with anything rose flavored as something the rose flavor can be so overpowering that it tastes more like PERFUME than anything else. but this was amazingly delicious, the combination of sweetness, sourness, fruitness, and the crunchiness from the MERINGUE was a perfect combination. because of the many citrus and sugar elements the rose was a nice little floral flavor. i could have also had another one of these.

not a bad view…

what a lovely dinner, the food was delicious and the service was excellent. and that view also helps set the scene. a highly recommend if you are in tampere. The menu is quite extensive, there are a variety of small dishes to share as appetizers or for a full meal. But you can also just order a main course and a side dish. we decided to order a few small dishes, one main, and many side dishes, and two desserts. and this was actually a good portioned meal for us, not too much and not too little..just right. i don’t think you can go wrong with any of the dishes there, they have a little of everything. the price is quite reasonable considering the location, the high quality of food and service that you do RECEIVE. if you are not hungry, you can also come for drinks, they have a small sitting area upstairs which also has this amazing view.
