We were looking for a nice place to eat and this came up many times as a place to try, so we booked a table to try some finnish tapas.
WE choose the 4 courses tasting menu with wine pairing.
Cucumber with goat milk
Pike Perch with Rhubarb
Pork neck with mustard
Boudin Blanc with onion
Carrot with tarragon
Fried Pike on Potato
Arctic Char with Tomato
Caramel with buttermilk
Blueberry with Milk
for the four course tasting menu that consisted of a few of their sapas or as they call them finnish tapas, then main course and dessert. they also have a five course tasting menu, but i am glad we choose the four tasting menu. or you can also order a la carte. as they are quite famous for their sapas you can order just a bunch of these at 8.20€ each if you aren’t too hungry or don’t want to INDULGE in a tasting menu. 4 course tasting menu is 55€ per person while the 5 course tasting menu is 58€. and the wine pairing is an additional 44€ per person.
unfortunately we were quite disappointed with the food and service. some of the tapas were quite tasty but some of them were actually quite boring, the dishes were very one dimensional. our favorites of the night would have been the pork neck, the perch with rhubarb, and the boudin blanc which reminded me of french onion soup. the pork neck was absolutely delicious, it was so tender and the mustard helped but the RICHNESS with slight acidity and sweetness. the main course of arctic char was really delicious, the fish was cooked well and the dish was very tasty. the desserts were also not so overwhelming. my blueberry with milk just was a simple cheesecake. it was good but nothing special or interesting about it. the caramel and buttermilk was a replacement dessert as we had requested gluten free and lactose free menu for one, but that dessert was super disappointing.
the service was unfortunately not great, they were very slow and not super attentive. The restaurant was full but nothing super crazy as it was also a wednesday night. For the money you pay at one of the places you have to eat in helsinki, i Don’t think it is worth it. the finnish tapas is a great idea however only some of the dishes were executed well and the service was sub par. i am hoping it was an off night but sadly i will not go back to test that theory.
