Paris April 2019

April 12-16 2019

it seems like Paris is now my home away from home, every couple months I seem to be back, which i am not complaining about. springtime in paris is really beautiful.

Day 1 April 12 2019

As we arrived in the late afternoon, we decided to take a rest then it was off to our FANCY dinner at Arpège. Link below for more.

Day 2 April 13 2019

after a busy work trip in milan with such as tight schedule, it was nice to be in paris to just relax and enjoy the spring weather, i just wish it was a bit warmer that weekend. whenever in paris the AGENDA always seems to revolve around food, however there is never enough time or space in my stomach to eat all that you want to eat in paris, there are way too many restaurants, cafes, bakeries. even if you lived there i don’t think you could try everything or know every place.

Sakura Set

Saksuki Bento

I love japanese food and there are so many great japanese restaurants in paris. one of my favorite japanese dish is unagi don, i had tried to come here my last visit but they were closed for renovation so i was delighted i could try it this time. the unagi was amazing and the sauce wasn’t overpoweringly sweet or at all that overpowering, it was just right. i think another reason why i love japanese food is all the little side dishes that accompanies the main dish. all of it is so beautifully presented and of course delicious. they have a huge variety of bento sets so you have plenty to choose from, from different side dishes to different portions of unagi. i would highly recommend if you like unagi and when traveling to japan is not feasible.

5 Dessert Option for the Day

Chocolate Cake

My dad had really wanted me to try these cakes as there seems to be a huge buzz about them and the pastry chef, cédric grolet. we were lucky that there were only a few people in front of us as the line can sometimes go around the block. we bought a few things to try: peanut cookies (which were delicious, i could have had more), the black lemon (the different layers were beautiful but the lemon inside was too strong in flavor) and the chocolate cake (this was really good even if you don’t like chocolate, it wasn’t too sweet and had a bit of saltiness to balance out the richness of the chocolate). I thought the cakes were good and interesting but nothing i would wait in a long line for.

Notre Dame

These pictures were taken just two days before the horrific fire at the notre dame’s roof. when i heard the news i couldN’t believe it.

Day 3 April 14 2019

Lamb Pita

This ISRAELI restaurant was recommended by my brother, we had tried to go there a few times but the line was always so long. so i would recommend getting there early or going at off times. it’s quite a small place but the turnover is quite quick. you first order your food, from a large selection of plates, pitas and grilled vegetables. you then find a seat and either someone brings you the food or you pick it up at the counter. a bit hectic and crowded but that just means the food is really good and it is worth the wait.

Grilled Cauliflower and Artichoke

after a little break back at the apartment it was THen off to our dinner at Pierre Sang in Oberkampf. link below for more.

Day 4 April 15 2019

there are many MUSEUMS in paris but after visiting the main ones, it is nice to stumble upon something a bit different and unique. the musée jacquemart andré is a private museum that was the private home of Édouard André and Nélie Jacquemart who collected numerous art pieces during their lifetime. the artworks and furnishings are very grand and ornate and it is truly unbelievable the collection that they had ACCUMULATED, it was very INTERESTING to learn about the history of the couple and their life. i would recommend buying the audio guide as there aren’t many descriptions in each room (plus the ones there are all in french) plus it also includes the special exhbition.

in several of the rooms upstairs they had a special exhibition with works by danish artist vilhelm hammershøi. i had not heard of him before but i really enjoyed his paintings and style, there is something very calming and peaceful in his works. i think it’s the simplicity in his paintings, the strange and sometimes non existence expressions of his subjects and his detail to lighting that makes his work unique and INTRIGUING. after that we grabbed a quick lunch in the musée cafe which was also quite busy.

later in the early evening is when we had found out about the fire at notre dame. we could only see some of the smoke but mostly heard helicopters and fire trucks. i was in disbelief watching it happen live on tv. i hope really hope it can be rebuilt but i guess many of it will be irreplaceable.
