Life in Germany September 2017

A busy beginning of the month for us as it was our own wedding, so there was still a lot to organize to get ready for the big day, or more like a whole week of celebration.  however after that we were finally able to relax a bit.  I also had some friends come stay with us for a few days, so we did some sightseeing nearby.

The first stop was to the much anticipated trip to the neuschwanstein or the Disney Castle.  I have wanted to go for some time now but i PATIENTLY waiting as i knew i would need to go there sometime in the near future with guests.

it is little over an hour drive south from our place, so the drive isn't too bad.  once we arrived we saw crowds and crowds of people, it is definitely a popular tourist destination.   so we parked the car took a little walk around then took a short ride on the bus to the top, but you can also walk up to the castle.  we then found the ticket booth which we were told that the only available time slots were much later in the day.  as we all wanted to go, we bought the tickets then wandering around and walked a few minutes down the hill to the restaurant to have some lunch and to escape from the cold, wet weather outside.

Hohenschwangau Castle

you can't take any pictures within the castle as it is to preserve the rooms and its furnishings.  but the decor inside is very interesting inside, definitely worth the visit to see and to learn about the history of the castle and kind ludwig.  the castle was ACTUALLY never finished, the king died before it was complete but it is still quite an impressive castle.  the view from the castle looking out onto the SURROUNDING  scenery is pretty amazing, i can see why the king had choosen this location to build what was supposed to be his home.

there is something else that we needed to do and see that only happens around this time of year, Oktoberfest!  i had been to the one in stuttgart a few years back but this would be my first visit to the one in München.  we just wanted to go to see what the fuss was all about, we didn't wear dindels or drink beer, but we did eat a lot of delicious food.  maybe next year we will plan to reserve a table and experience it from inside the tent.  a fun and tasty first time at oktoberfest.
