Life in Germany October 2017

fall has to be one of my favorite seasons and in germany it is truly a special time, the changing colors, the fall flavors, the cooler temperatures.  we were able to enjoy a bit of it at the beginning of the month but then we had to do a bit of traveling at the end of the month.

one thing that is exceptionally great about fall in germany is that you can buy a variety of pumpkins just on the side of the street.  there is no one in attendance at the stand, so it is all based on an honor system, you pay for what you take.  with each type of pumpkin there are different prices for the different sizes plus a recipe on how to cook that type of pumpkin.  we only tooked a few just to test them out, but i am sure we will be back for more.  it really is a great concept and something i will look forward to each fall.

on one of the weekends we decided to drive to Lindau, a very nice town by the water.  the ancient town of lindau is on a little island, which you can drive through or walk over from the city center.  you can walk around many little streets filled with restaurants, shops, old churches and buildings.  it is a nice little day trip.

it was a nice sunny day so we decided to drive down to Fussen to have a walk around the lake as we had not been back since the spring and wanted to see it during the fall.  it seemed like a lot of people were also enjoying the nice weather too.

the Next few weeks would be extremely busy, a short trip to Strasbourg to visit a friend, then a trip to Hong Kong to finalize some wedding details then a very short trip to Shanghai to visit some friends and to revisit some old haunts.  And then lastly a very quick drive through verona before the traveling would finally stop.  Please check out the links below for more details and pictures from these trips.

as october 31st and november 1st were public holidays we choose to take advantage of the free days and explore our area.  in germany as everything is closed on sundays and holidays, it actually forces people to go out, take walks, explore, and spend time with friends and family.  we revisited Starnberg, which was particularly crowded as everyone was basking in the sunshine and SLIGHTLY warmer weather that day.  we took a walk around and enjoyed being by the lake.  the next day we took a short drive to a smaller lake near us, worthsee.  we decided to take a walk around the whole lake, from the map it didn't look to be that big and we also saw several people walk by us twice.  but in the end the lake was much bigger than we had thought, so it ended up being a "Lesuirely" 11 km walk.  we had heard that during the winter at this small lake you can go ice skating so will look foward to come back to try it out.
