Life in Germany June and July 2017
I needed to stop by the U.S. consulate in munich and as my appointment was done early, i decided to walk around. the consulate just happens to be right next to the english garden and the famous eisbach, river surfing. it was just a nice day to have a walk around the park.
One early evening we decided to drive to the kloster andechs (adechs abbey) as it is right across the lake from us. it is a MONASTERY and one of bavaria's oldest pilgrimage site, people still today make the PILGRIMAGE to this holy mountain. you can walk around the site, take a look at the old church and then after you can have a DELICIOUSLY enormous pork knuckle and a beer made by the MONASTERY bewery. it is worth it to just go and have the pork knuckle if that's what you like. THey also have some nice pork belly, leberkäse (bavarian meat loaf), and plenty of sausages. definitely go when the weather is nice so that you can sit outside enojying some nice food and drinks in their biergarten.
we decided on a sunday to drive down towards mittenwald then further south to austria, stopping at Scharnitz to go for a hike. We started off walking through the mountains along the river, the color of the water was very interesting as it had rained the days prior and somehow had left the water looking milky white. but as we traveled up towards the gleirschklamm gorge, the water became clearer. what a beautiful gorge, s0 clean and peaceful, a great place to take a break and cool down in the chilling water.

we had thought we were halfway through the hike but we were not even close, we still had the hardest part ahead of us, climbing up the mountain to about 1,523m. it was especially tough as we hadn't been doing much exercise recently, but we finally made it and on top the reward, a place to sit, eat, rehydrate, and relax. oberbrunn alm, is a cozy little restaurant serving simple food and a shot of snaps on arrival. it was actually quite crowded as everyone was enjoying the nice weather. there were a few other fellow hikers but mostly were mountain bikers as e-bikes seemed to have become so popular that many more people are able to spend time outdoors.
