As I had started school in September exploring became less and less. I was driving down every Sunday to school then driving back home every Friday night. so there wasn't much time left each weekend plus when exams were approaching, the weekends mostly consisted of practicing and cooking exam dishes.
october 2016
First stop was a quick trip to the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley, West Midlands. this museum is a small village made up of different types of buildings including houses and stores that depict the industrial life of the 1850-1950s. they call it a living museum because they have people in each building that explain the history of the building. the houses are real family homes that have been transported from the original location to the musuem, so you can learn the history of the house and the family that lived there. there is a candy store, fish and chips shop, and even a bar where you can enjoy some treats and a pint. you can also take the underground cave tour which shows you how it was to work as a coal digger. i actually found this musuem quite interesting as there were some personal stories to the history and you could actually listen and learn about these stories instead of just reading them on a wall.
I had a half term break from school at the end of October, which meant a four day weekend. yahoo! So we took advantage of my time off and drove up to edinburgh. Please click on the link to read more about our trip.
november 2016
Next was a quick day trip to nottingham or robin hood territory. we first went up to the nottingham castle and museum. the museum was ok as it was actually quite small, but on top you have a nice view of the city. after that we decided to walk through the town. well it being mid november thought it was a bit too early to start celebrating christmas but in the town center it was the opening day for the christmas market. from the center square there are several pedestrian streets that have plenty of shops and restaurants on the main road and some little alleys that have smaller boutiques and coffee shops. nottingham is a nice city to explore for a quick day trip.
