Gucci Osteria by Massimo Bottura in Los Angeles

July 28 2021

As a familiar friend was able to get a reservation for us, we had to go and try it out. We were very curious to go there as we heard very mixed reviews, some said it wasn’t good at all while other said it was amazing. So the adventure begins.

We decided to do the 5 course tasting menu with an addition course of the tortellini.

amuse bouche of cheese crisp and potato cream. Salty, creamy, nice start to the meal.

Spring is Coming- white asparagus, burrata, buckwheat, seaweed. the plating and design of the dish was inspired by the walt disney concert hall. Interesting texture and flavors.

Insalata di Mare- Seafood salad, seasonal greens. a beautifully presented dish with lots of seafood surprises underneath.

Risotto Camouflaged as Pizza- Tomato, basil, stracciatella. This had to be my favorite dish of the night, and it does taste like pizza even the slightly brown or burnt crust. if any dish to try then this one for certain.

Coming from the Hills “I love rock climbing”- Local white trout, hazelnuts, mushrooms. This was a SUBSTITUTE course for the TORTELLINI.

Tortellini- Parmigiano Reggiano sauce. we enjoyed it, however it was quite rich. half of the portion would have been enough.

Osso & Buco- veal, celeriac, bone marrow salad. a SUBSTITUTE course for the cod. veal cooked and seasonally PERFECTLY, portion could have been bigger or an addition of a vegetable could have been nice.

Cod as Milanese- Farmer’s market tomato terrine. the cod was good however the fish itself did not have much flavor, yes there was flaky salt but only a few pieces on top. the best part of the dish was the tomato terrine, intense flavor but very fresh.

Charley Marley- Chocolate, hazelnut and wild rice. it was good but quite a heavy dessert after a heavy meal, wish it was something lighter or more summery.

THe service was really good, the restaurant setting was really nice, sitting outside on the rooftop terrace right in the middle of rodeo drive. The food was good but we all weren’t so impressive. There were certainly a few dishes that stood out and would go back for however there were others that felt a bit too simple or lacked flavor. in all we were slightly DISAPPOINTED as with the name of ACCLAIMED chef massimo bottura behind the restaurant, we envisioned something a bit more impressive. I know that we are still going through a pandemic and restaurants are still trying to find their way back, so maybe we give them another chance.
