One Day in Leipzig

June 13 2019

Well as my husband had to go to leipzig for work and it was my birthday, I decided to take a day trip as I had never been to the city before.

There is quite a lot to see in just the city center of Leipzig, you can just wander around the streets as there are so many interesting buildings and different kind of architecture. all so very UNIQUE, old and new buildings mixed together and many of them have been newly restored. some of the main attractions are st. nicholas and st. thomas church but there are also many other churches around, also the opera house, city hall, marketplatz, and Mädler Passage. they are all within the city center.

after exploring the city center i made my way south and walked down karl-liebknecht strasse, also known as karl-li. here you will find interesting street art as well as many small and unique cafes, shops, galleries, and buildings. an interesting to stop by is Kunst und Gewerbegenossenschaft Feinkost where you can find really unique shops and events, such as flea markets and summer movie screenings.

There are several museums you can visit if you have more time. For example, Museum der Bildenden Künste for fine arts, Zeitgeschichtliches Forum for history of eastern germany from 1949 to reunification, Bach-Museum for the life and works of sebastian bach or the Grassi Museum. Another site that i would have liked to visit was the Völkerschlachtdenkmal (monument to the battle of the nations). from the pictures i have seen, it looks really beautiful. it is a bit OUTSIDE of the city center, by public transportation it takes about 30 minutes. but i am sure it is well worth to visit.

after a full day of walking around in the warm weather, i decided to take a little break at the hotel. then it was off to my birthday dinner. It was a lovely dining experience at villers. as the weather was still nice we decided to have dinner in the courtyard which was so lovely and peaceful. i was surprised to find such high quality of food and service here in leipzig.

we each just choose a starter, a main and a dessert. but you can have more or less courses as you have 10 courses to choose from. or you can do all 10 courses if you are feeling ADVENTUROUS. a definite recommend if you are in leipzig and are looking for somewhere a bit nicer to have dinner. what a great, not fussy birthday dinner.
