Strasbourg, France October 2017

October 18-19 2017

a good friend had recently moved to strasbourg and as i had a pretty easy week I decided to make the short drive to france.  as i had never been to STRASBOURG it was a great opportunity to see the city and spend time with my friend. they actually live in haguenau which is about 30 minutes north of strasbourg.  it is a very nice town and as it was such a beautiful day, we enjoyed wandering the streets taking in the sunshine.  But as i am in france, food and eating is what you do.  so cakes, foie gras, and beef tartare were on the menu and all were delicious.

the historical city center of strasbourg, the Grand Ile or little island is a unesco world heritage site.  There are many wonderful streets to just wander and walk around filled with stores, bakeries, cafes, and restaurants.  the city does have its charm and beauty, especially it with being autumn the changing of the leaves adds that extra something.  i would DEFINITELY recommend making a trip to this city, plus alsatian food is deliciuos.

Lunch was very simple as we were going to have a heavy dinner. so we had some simple tartine sandwiches and a side salad with obviously a glass of Riesling at l'epicerie.

and what we had been waiting for dinner at la cloche a fromage, hope my stomach can handle it.   The cheese potato dish was amazing, a must try tastes like cheesy mashed potatoes but with a smooth creamy stringy texture.  They offer a variety of different cheese tastings with a smaller selection or a larger selection of cheeses to taste.  and of course you can't forget to order the raclette, the warm cheese dripping onto the plate.  they also have fondue, which looked delicious but we already had an overload of cheese, next time it will be a must to order.  well if you don't like cheese then this place is definitely not for you, but for those who do this is cheese heaven.  besides the restaurants they also have cheese stores where you can buy almost any kind of cheese you want.  i love cheese and this place is amazing, a must if you are in strasboug.
