A short weekend trip to the Czech republic to see some of the sites and to attend a wedding. I had never been to Czech before, so it was a fun but short trip. I will definitely come back and explore more, especially the city of prague.
Day 1 August 4 2017
Cesky Krumlov
as the wedding was on saturday we decided to make a stop at cesky krumlov on that friday as it was on the way. my dad had been there before but it was many years ago, so he was excited to revisit the town. we were staying in the old town so it was only a couple minutes walk up to the Cesky Krumlov castle, we walked around the castle grounds then took a tour of inside the castle. our guide tried to explain the long history of the different families that had lived there, each with their own style and influence either baroque or RENAISSANCE. it was very insightful, although we couldn't keep up with all the different names. the view of the town from the castle was beautiful, the town itself is very charming.
After that we wandered the streets and bought some glasses as this area is known for their glass and crystal craftsmanship which dates back to ancient times. we then had a quick dinner then off to the revolving theatre. We were recommended to go but didn't really know what to expect. it sure was an experience! The only issue is that we didn't understand the opera as it was all in czech, but the setting was beautiful as it was located directly in the castle gardens plus the "revolving" aspect was very interesting and something i had never experienced before. if you do have a chance to go, somehow figure out how to see or get the subtitles in advance so that you can follow along. Or if you are limited on time, you can walk around the revolving theatre during the day to imagine what it would be like to watch a play or opera there.
Day 2 August 5 2017
trhove sviny
wedding day! we drove about an hour through the little town of trhove sviny towards an old flour mill. This mill is no longer in operation but it has now been converted into a wedding venue, where you can have the ceremony, reception, and several rooms for guests to stay for the night. it was quite remote but a beautiful area, and we were very lucky with the weather that day. i find it very interesting to attend weddings in different countries as you see and experience different wedding traditions and cultures. and this was my first czech wedding, which I would have to say was the most casual and relaxed weddings i have ever been to. I hope ours will be as easy going.
