Life in Germany May 2018

our time in germany was a bit short this month as we were also in paris and prague.  however the time spent in germany wasn't wasted as it was finally summer weather and we could enjoy more time outside.

as it was a national holiday on the second thursday we decided to make a short drive down to mittenwald.  what a beautiful day, the sun was shining and everything had become so green.  it was such a pretty and peaceful walk.

the following saturday we took our bikes out from the basement and rode around the entire ammersee lake with a break in diessen.  that weekend there was a ceramic and pottery market in diessen (diessen töpfermarkt), which happens every year for a couple of days.  i was surprised to see how large the market was with over 100 different stalls selling all different kinds and types of pottery.  they did have many nice and interesting pieces so we did end up buying a few things but also took many name cards for some future purchases.

the next weekend we also had nice weather so we took a trip to another lake nearby, wörthsee.  instead of biking around the lake we walked all the way around.  we did stop more than halfway to have a delicious lunch of local fish and pork cultet at seehaus raabe.  the whole lake was so busy with walkers, bike riders and everyone who jut wanted to enjoy the lake and sunshine.

as i had some friends visiting münchen, a trip to the neushwanstein castle was a must.  it was nice to go back this time as instead of it all being brown it was all different shades of green.  and this time we took a tour of the hohenschwangau castle, which was the childhood residence of king ludwig II.

as we were celebrating a special birthday, i did some research on some nice restaurants in our area and found one located at starnberg called restaurant oliv's.  the food was excellent, the setting was nice however as it is in a hotel it does feel a bit like a hotel restaurant.  but the food and service definitely made up for the lack of ambience.  in the back there is also restaurant aubergine, a one star michelin restaurant which we will need to try next time.
