Kazuya in Wiesbaden

We had decided to drive up one weekend to wiesbaden as we hadn't been in awhile and as part of a surprise we had a lovely lunch just outside of the city in schlangenbad.

this tiny restaurant is located within a high end furniture store called neumühle zauberhaft.  as it is a small restaurant only consisting of several seats along a wooden table, you do have to call in advance to see if they have availability and if they are open.  as the chef comes from kyoto there is a lot of japanese influence in the dishes mixed with some german ingreidents too.

Housemade Cured Meats and Pickles

First Course- Tuna Tartare with Seaweed, Avocado, and Egg

Third Course- Coconut Curry Soup with Cod

Chocolate Mousse with Mango

Second Course- Foie Gras with Radish, Miso Sauce, and Yuzu

what a lovely lunch in a nice and intimate SURROUNDING.  the food was simple but cooked perfectly and tasted great.  the chef explained how he made and processed the cured meats which made it that extra special when eating it, he sliced them right in front of us.  the tuna tartare with avocado and seaweed was a very simple dish but the combination of flavors were very tasty.  the foie gras with radish and miso, which seems to be a reoccuring theme, does makes sense as these flavors go so well together.  the coconut soup was full of flavor and creamy but it wasN't too rich as the delicate cod softened it up.  and lastly, what i thought was chocolate ice cream was actually a creamy and very solid chocolate mousse with some fresh sweet mango, which brought some sweetness and FRUITINESS to balance the richness and slight bitterness of the chocolate.  as it is a very small restaurant, the interaction with the chef and staff is what makes this restaurant so intimate and unique.  It is a nice place to spend a couple of hours in the afternoon or at night to have some really delicious food, nice wine, and good conversations.
