my second time to spain and it did not disappoint, except that i am not used to hot humid weather anymore.

As we had an early morning flight we arrived at around noon, we decided to walk around as most restaurants don’t open until 1 pm or later. We did try to find some shade and cool spots as it was hotter than i had anticipated and the humidity just makes you sweat. we had a nice delicious lunch at manero, of course we arrived shortly after 1pm and were the first customers while everyone starting coming in an hour or so later. we were hungry as we only had a small early breakfast, we had sardines, tortilla, squids and of course patatas bravas. we then walked around a bit more, had some gelato to cool down then heading to the hotel for a much needed cool down and rest. then after we heading to La Taberna del Gourmet for a lovely dinner of more spanish tapas.

as we were pretty exhausted from the day before we had a bit of a late start, breakfast but more like brunch at madness speciality coffee, where they serve a wide selection of coffee but also have a good food menu with breakfast offerings to sandwiches and more. we then walked around a bit more before heading back to do some more work. then we had a bit of an appetite late in the afternoon so we actually went back to La Taberna del Gourmet and sat outside on the pedestrian street for some small tapas just to get some food in our belly until dinner. as we hadn’t paella yet we decided to go to Bodeguita 1999, which from some reviews was one of the best paellas they ever had. it was good but i think there are better ones out there, we need to try a few more.

we had an appointment on the east side of alicante, away from the old town so after our appointment we decided to stay in that area and explore a little. we had a nice mostly fish and seafood lunch at lorea then walked on the San Juan Playa. white sand and refreshing salt water on your feet is as good as it gets. after that we went back to the hotel for a little rest and cool down. we then went to the Castillo de Santa Bárbara as it is a must see or main attraction in alicante, we decided to go early in the evening thinking that it would be a bit cooler it was but it was still quite hot on top. you can either walk up to the castle or enter from the bottom and take an elevator up, the second option is what we choose. From almost ever part you get amazing views of alicante, ocean views as well as city views. there are guided tours available but you can just easily walk around and explore. most of the pathways are a bit steep with stone so proper footwear is recommended. after a walk around and a rest in the shade we made the walk down to Restaurante La Ereta, which was only a 10-15 minute walk from the castillo. what a beautiful location for a restaurant with an amazing view and the food was amazing, so many fresh and local ingredients. i would definitely recommend.
