Life In Germany August 2018
Summertime in Germany is really nice, beautiful weather and longer days. however this year there hasn't been a lot of rain the leaves are already falling down and the harvest season had to start much earlier so we will see how that will affect us in the next few months.
From Los Angeles I flew directly back to Frankfurt as we had a wedding to attend the next day and my first meal back in Germany was not German food but Korean food. it was good but UNFORTUNATELY it was not as flavorful or authentic as what you can find in la. it has some nice outdoor seating and the staff is quite friendly, i would go back but it might not completely satisfy my korean food craving.

it was that time of year again, weinfest in wiesbaden (Rheingauer Weinwoche). a whole week where almost up to a hundred stands take over downtown wiesbaden there you can try as many different wines from the region, the most famous being white riesling. at night we were at the weinfest but during the day we went around wiesbaden and the surrounding area.

Finally back home after almost three weeks away. all i wanted to do was to relax at home and take it easy, so there was quite a bit of home cooking and easy short trips to enjoy the last moments of the summer.

my brother decided to come visit us as he was already in europe, so we went all over munich and even down to mittenwald to do some hiking. the hike was good and tiring. we started out in scharnitz and walked around the isar river and heading towards oberbrunn, a majority of it is uphill as you are going towards the top of the hills but along the way there are a few nice places to stop and relax, even a quick dip in some very cold but refreshing spring water. after a couple hours we reached the top and arrived at a small hut, oberbrunn alm where we had a welcome schnapps and some local specialities, speck (bacon), cheese, wurst and homemade butter. then a shorter hike down to gießenbach, with this trail you do need two cars as it doesn't make a full round. but there are also a ton of other hiking trails around this area for day and overnight hikes. the city of mittenwald and the SURROUNDING areas are world known for having great hiking trails, so it is definitely worth a visit.

Back to Munich to visit the lenbachhaus und kunstbau museum. they had some interesting artwork, more contemporary and modern art with a few older art collections on one wing. some of the artists include Thomas Bayrle, Maria Lassnig, Stephen Shore, Sigmar Polke, Gerhard Richter, Andy Warhol, and Wassily Kandinsky. a great place to spend a couple of hours on a rainy day.
