the last meal of our trip. although all the food has been so good, i don’t think i could eat anymore meals like this every day.
reservations are highly recommended, as we were a larger group of 6 we were given a table at 9pm. a bit late but was worth it. there is only a set menu of around 7-8 dishes, the carte blanche for 90€. So you do need to inform them if you have any food allergies or restrictions.
Asparagus with brown butter mayo. this was a bit difficult to eat but it was very delicious, there was a slight sweetness, creaminess and nuttiness from the brown butter mayo and then some crunch from the asparagus. a nice, simple, fresh start.
oyster with watercress and bergamot with pickled shallot. this was interesting, not my favorite of the night. the oyster was quite large which was really generous but it was quite difficult to eat. and the combination of the oyster, watercress and bergamot didn’t seem to work for me.
sheep cheese, seaweed and mustard flower. this was really a DELICIOUS dish and almost too pretty to eat. the mustard flower although quite small added a lot of flavor and bit of spice, which was a nice contrast the creaminess and saltiness of the other ingredients. also who doesn’t love cheese or cream on top of a buttery puff pastry bottom.
raw red tuna with ASPARAGUS consomme and white asparagus. the tuna was so excellent and EXTREMELY fresh, you can see the color of it. the white asparagus was delectable and was cooked well so that it still had a bit of a crunch. i know some people don’t like the taste of white asparagus but it was a nice combination with the fresh tuna. i still always cringe when i heard the word consomme as it reminds me of my culinary school days mastering this.
cod, sicilian green peas, bergamot lemon. i loved this dish. the cod was cooked perfectly, the peas were also cooked perfectly they still had a bit of a bite as well as that sweetness. and the bergamot lemon cream sauce just tied everything together. only a few ingredient dish but all cooked well and the flavors worked well with each other.
thai basil and old hen. the hen was cooked perfectly, the meat still quite tender and juicy which if it is an old hen then that can be difficult to do. the sauce was good too, which had a bit of an asian flavor due to the thai basil. but honestly i was already quite full by the time this arrived.
strawberries, vinegarette of bay leaves, cream cheese foam and sorrel sorbet. i really liked this dessert, light but flavorful. you had to peel back the MERINGUEs to see what was inside. the vinegarette of bay leaves was intriguing as i mostly associate bay leaves with savory things like for stocks and sauces, the taste wasn’t so strong but introduced another flavor element. the sorrel sorbet added that slight tanginess and who doesn’t like a crunchy meringue. a very fancy “palate cleanser.”
paris brest with hazelnut and caramel. a great way to end the meal! this was so yummy i could have had another one. even for the local parisians, they said that this was one of the best paris brest they have ever had. hazelnut, caramel, ice cream and choux pastry, you can’t go wrong with that combination. i might want to try to recreate this at home.
the problem with Paris is there are so many amazing restaurants serving all different cuisines in all different price ranges. 90€ per person is a bit on the higher end but the restaurant does have one michelin star and the quality of the food and service is well deserved of that price. however i would probably go back only for a special occasion or for maybe a fancy lunch. the restaurant strives to serve seasonal and organic ingredients as well offering natural wines. the staff is KNOWLEDGEABLE about the food and wine and are very attentive. a recommend but not on the top of my list.
