Mary's Restaurant in Hannover

January 13 2018

We were in Hannover for a flooring trade show.  so of course we still had to eat something at night, so we looked up the best restaurants in hannover and mary's restaurant was one of the top picks.  we booked a table and gave it a try.

we decided on the fixed menu with the wine pairing.  as we weren't too hungry we thought the four course menu might be a bit too much so the waiter suggested to do a three course menu and they would take out the soup course.

first to start off was the amuse bouche of goose liver and parsnip cream.  a simple cold starter to begin the meal.

the first course was Fried fillet of pike-perch, mustard cream, bacon tart, and lamb’s lettuce.  the fish with the mustard cream was very tasty, however i thought the bacon tart was a bit too salty.  but the overall combination of flavors in this dish was good.

The main course was a Tournedo of dry-aged beef fillet, sauce béarnaise, fillet Savoy cabbage, rutabaga, and a potato soufflé.  THe beef was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious and the béarnaise sauce was obviously heavenly.  the rutabaga was almost mistaken for potato however it did have a bit more of a bite and crunch than a cooked potato.  a very classic dish of beef, béarnaise sauce and potatoes but it was a very delicious dish.

and for dessert was a Walnut parfait, nougat mousse, and spiced oranges.  the parfait was tasty and we were actually wanting a semifreddo the night before so this definitely hit the spot.  i aM not a huge fan of oranges in desserts and unfortunately i didn't particular enjoy them in this dish, however the nougat mousse and raspberry coulis were delicious.

the taste and dishes might be very classical french however all the dishes tasted excellent, so nothing wrong with serving classic french food if done right.  in addition the environment and atmosphere in the restaurant is very nice and comfortably cozy.  we were lucky enough to have an enclosed dining booth to ourselves.  it was also a great value for money, a four course menu will put you at €54 per person and an additional €25 per person for the wine pairing.  as we only ordered the three courses they did deduct some money off.  furthermore the service was excellent and the waiters were great and honest about the amount of food, they didn't force us to take more than what we needed.  so if you happen to be in hannover and looking for a nice place to eat then i would strongly recommend mary's restaurant.  you won't be disappointed.
