Pizza Dough

I love pizza and I do enjoy going out to eat it as well as delivery. But homemade pizza made from homemade pizza dough is pretty damn good.


Prep Time: 25 minutes (plus 1-2 hours of proofing)

Cook time: 20 minutes

Serving: 2 small pizzas or 1 large 25cm (10 inch) pizza

Ingredients:

  • 15g fresh yeast

  • 1/4 tsp sugar

  • 120ml lukewarm water

  • 175g strong white flour or all purpose flour

  • pinch of salt

  • 2 tbsp oil

Method:

  1. Put yeast, sugar and water into a small bowl. (Make sure water is lukewarm, warm to touch. If water is too cold then the yeast won’t activate and if water is too hot, it will kill the yeast). Leave to stand for 10 minutes or until frothy.

  2. Sift flour and salt into a mixing bowl. Make a well in the center, add oil and yeast mixture. Mix to form a firm dough.

  3. Place dough on a lightly floured board and knead well for APPROXIMATELY 10 minutes or until the dough is smooth and will spring back when lightly pressed. Place dough in a clean mixing bowl, cover either with plastic wrap or kitchen towel. Leave it to prove in a warm place until it doubles in size, should take roughly 1-2 hours.

  4. Knead the dough back into a ball on a floured surface then flatten it to a circle approximately 2.5cm (1 inch thick). Roll out from the centre to the edge to fit a 25cm (1o inch) pizza pan or flan ring on a baking sheet.

  5. preheat oven to 400f/ 200c. COmplete pizza with desired sauce, cheese and toppings.

  6. bake for 15-20 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. Enjoy!

pizza dough is actually surprisingly easy to make, i think it takes more effort to think about and then prep all the toppings and sauce. the most important thing is to activate the yeast, so making sure that the water temperature is correct is key. water should be warm to touch and then you just let the yeast do Its magic. the dough is very delicious and quite crispy, you do not need a fancy pizza oven or stone although those would be nice. if you have never made homemade pizza you should definitely give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.
